Are NOS tires THAT old safe for road use?

I mean, as of late, there have been all kinds of reports of tires breaking apart because rubber deteriorates over time.

( I am no tire expert, just relaying recent reports seen on the news)

In fact, some tire experts say anything over 6 years on the shelf should be removed and destroyed, and not sold to the public.

Were WW2 tire designs built better by chance, eliminatang this safety issue?

were they refering to radial tires, and there is no concern wit the old bias ply construction by chance?

just wondering, as we are all trying to be safety concieous here.

Wouldnt want the Accident re-construction types to have a field day because you had 20-30 year old tires on your truck and knowingly ran them on the road.

so are you gonna answer then? Are you expert enough, or qualified enough to answer what I asked?

Are those 30 year old (or more perhaps older) tires SAFE to drive on our public roads, at road speed, or not?

instead of some general smart alec comment as you are so very fond of writing, why not answer my question?

I am concerned... If I knew a truck was in front of me on the road shod with 30 year or more older vintage tires, I might be concerned as to the overall safety factor of this truck and my well being should one fail.

As you just love stating, the "accident re-construction types "would have a field day.

you have no issue stating how dangerous our modifications are, but I think these NOS tires could in fact be even more dangerous gievn the age of them.

so, address the question, "EXPERT"

you dont see a problem though, do you ? OF course not. :D

Some talk of the old pre-1942 marking system here:

http://sill-www.army.mil/FAMAG/1941/OCT ... 76_778.pdf

I have a few pictures of these markings on VF/VC Dodges but none I think on GMC's which would provide a guide.

Check out issues 7 & 8 of the "new" Army Motors - number 7 covers the early marking scheme.
