Judging by the valve refacer, it's an auto repair setup.

Note the King Bee Hy-Power reflectors and blue louvre lights.

It looks like only Sgt Half-Mast knows what's in the box though.

These were compact and well laid out. I was issued the Medium Load Shop Van manufactured by COUSE and mounted on an M-46 2-1/2 ton 6X6.

Gonna guess "Trip tickets" were kept in the box.

Apart from those few European surplus ones, I am surprised no one really has restored a workshop truck with all the period tools - much more interesting and useful than collecting water buckets. Think how much fun you could have on the G503 tool forum.

No Thank you!!! The tool topic is one helluva monkey see-monkey do sideshow, everyone is an expert. What is funny is that someone will mispronounce a term, and everyone else will use that same word (note the term "parked" for "Parkerized". What ever happened to the days when one just reached for a wrench in an Army tool set. PT Barnum was right.

Frank Buck did have one of the similar GMC type vans that was restored in England, it was sold off with the rest of his collection.
I always wanted one of the types that I was trained to operate, but the pecking order of surplus as it goes thru the channels prevented any chance of that. And what happened when the US Forest Service turned them over to the various states was a shame. The lathes and other Machine tools would disappear to Forest Service employees private use, along with the hundreds of Machinists tools. I doubt that one was ever actually kept intact for Forest Service use. Things were a little crooked to say the least.

I have been collecting tools for my CMP Chev Blitz Workshop truck for the last 20 years or so - it's very satisfying when another piece of the puzzle drops into place - of the major stuff - only need the 4.5 KVA generator powered by the Howard V twin motor. Ebay helps a lot with old tool stuff.

Never seen many US surplus tools here which is a mystery.

Looks similar to the RATION BOX offered by Mid West Military. Bettr scoot over to Mid West Military and get one before they are all gone.
