What's in the Box?

What is in that litle box near the front door?

Wouldn't it be nice to have one of these with all the tools - I have the back 2ft of one of these truck's chassis with bumperettes - might be a big job to restore one from that bit. :(
I love the smell of cosmoline in the morning!

I should have the manual for this truck. I do not see it but will bump into it somewhere. I used it to help Dr Bennett locate part numbers and items when restoring his truck 25 years ago.

The different colour of the box suggests it may be add-on equipment but for what - that is the question.

As a North Carolinian, I must respectfully submit that Krispy Kreme is a far superior product. :D

Appears to be an add on, note the paint shade difference. Maybe the Trip Tickets are kept in it.

If you enlarge the picture, there is a faint curving black line under the box that might be an electrical cable of some sort.

There must be something good in it as there appears to be a padlock on the bottom.

Note also how the truck seems to have been repainted around the old unit markings on the doors.

Line might be a padlock-retaining chain?

So, the bottom of the box is padlocked shut, and maybe there is a slot in the top.

A letterbox function of some kind?

Maybe it's for when the Ordnance Mechanics get stuck, they can write to this fellow:

Sgt Half Mast has never failed me. He is the creation of Col Bruno Brooks, Quartermaster Corps at Ft Holabird back in 1940.

GMC AFKX-352, Ordnance had several versions from Instrument Repair, Welding, Machine Shop, etc, there were several versions equipped for various Ordnance purposes. They made a couple thousand of these between 40-42. Frank Buck had a nice one 10 years ago and offered it for 17 Grand.
These old trucks do command value.
