NOS are very scarce, those that do find one are very fortunate as they will have a perfect fit.
If you are having one fabricated at a muffler shop, you may want to go this route. The originals are flared with a short sleeve inside the flare that must fit correctly into the exhaust manifold in order to ensure a secure, leakproof installation. If only the end is flared, and the sleeve is not there, there will be a chance for motion and a leak in a very short time. It is difficult for the shop to duplicate the correct end.
The best way to get around the problem is to purchase the NOS front section of the M-Series GMC Exhaust Pipe GM(YT)-2277580 at a dealer such as Memphis Equipment in Chambersburg PA. The pipe has the correct end and a NOS flange that you can use. The end can be cut off and spliced to the new pipe you are having made. You will then have the best possible combination of a new pipe with a correct fit at the manifold, and will not experience the problems that others have with muffler shop fabrications.
