CCKW SPLIT/BANJO - DIFFERENTIAL/WHEEL BEARINGS

Just a little tidbit here, as there is an interesting type of bearing used that is found on Banjo axle CCKWs and not on Split axle CCKWs. The bearings used ao the Rear Wheel and Differential Carrier Bearings of the Banjo axled CCKW are called "Barrel Bearings", a close look at them and you'll note that the rollers are shaped like mineature barrels or beer kegs. They are unlike the Tapered Roller Bearings found on the Front Wheels both CCKW types and on the Rear Axles and Differential Carrier Bearings of the Split Axle CCKWs.
Barrel Bearings are a New Departure-Hyatt design unique to GM products of the 30s-40s. (ND-Hyatt is a GM subsidiary)
Barrel bearings are also found in the CCKW Saginaw steering gears.
Some local parts store personell may be baffled when you try to order them.
I do not have that problem and help keep fellow CCKW owners supplied with them.
They are not kept as stock at the popular parts franchises, and may be easier to find in some European locations where the CCKW was most recently used.
