I am about ready to make the transverse seats for my wc21. No remnants were left when I started and I'm having a difficult time finding any information on them. Does anyone happen to have the dimensions of the support pieces that bolt to the bed sides and transverse seats?
Thanks Ernie

Well Ernie, I reckon I could make a full set of transverse seats from this one image;

Image

You can see the sizes, fittings, bevels, slots underneath each plank for the retainer, pretty much all you need except details of the retainer clip.

I remember being told that the side pieces were 1" thick - not sure of the cross-pieces. Anyone have exact dimensions?

Hi

Ernie
I measured mine today.
Each side piece is 1 1/2 inches thick, by 4 inches high and 76 1/2 inches long.
The cuts outs along the top are at the following measurments from the front. Front set of tranverse seat are at 16 1/4 inches to 27 1/2 inches.
the second set are 43 1/4 to 54 1/2/ the seat cut outs are 1 1/2 inches deep.
The seats are 2 boards each . each board is 5 1/4 by 1 1/2 by 48.
Holding the 2 boards of each seat together is 3 2 by 1/2 by 48 inches long
The clasp is still a big mystery. the side boards have a small rectangulalr hole that opens up to a square under each seat. But to date, nobody that i know of has seen or copied a set

Hope this helps
Ernie

Thank you so much for the assistance with the dimensions Ernie and Gordon! Just to confirm the pieces holding the two boards together for the cross seats are 3- 2"x1/2"x48"? Is one of the pieces down the center of the cross seat and the other two on the edges?

Ernie,

Are you making them from red oak? In SoCal, white oak seems quite hard to find. At some point I'm going to make a bed and was thinking of other wood like pine or poplar.

I'm planning on using white oak. We have several vendors in the bay area that carries white oak.

I was thinking more along the lines of Transversia, Transaxleria!

Anyone else get it? (the reference?)

No, I get it!!!

Probably one of the more humorous attempts you've made at shamelessly increasing your post count.

Hello Gordon,
Looking at your pic of the 1/2 ton bed, the pick up box is installed on the Frame using 3 1/2" Diameter bolts, nuts and washers per side correct? I was under the impression they used 4 on each side. Hope my impression was wrong. :D
