CCKW REPLACEMENT WOOD COMPONENTS

Post by RANGER »

In addition to some CCKW wooden items being manufactured by Vendors, GMC supplied replacement parts which had the Part no. stamped in 5/8" GMC font. Some of you may discove a slat on the Cargo Body headboard or Troop Rack Slat and mistake it for the USA Registration Number. GMC wood replacement Front Running Board Spacer GM-2141240 was supplied in OD paint with the part number stamped in 5/8" GMC font.
I have a quantity of original WWII issue running board spacers in stock.

The cargo beds have to have been the least documented part of the entire CCKW series.

We have little in the way of written info.. the TMs just go over mounting, and the SNLs only list parts without showing you where they go or what they are. The TM 10 barely acknowledge that the CCKW even HAD a cargo bed.

I have a copy of an AM article that describes the 'new' wooden bed... and it DOES give a complete list of all the fasteners... over 700.

Dump trucks, water and fuel tanks seem to have gotten all the press... and they made up a small % (around 25 %) of total production.

The assembly manual for the wood cargo body is a must. TM9-1801 has detailed easy to follow instruction for repair and rebuild of the Wood Cargo Body. The instructions in TM9-1801 are also sufficient for repair and replacement of wooden components of the Composite Cargo Body.
