Ranger's CCKW stood tall today, its namesake featured on the door was a Ranger and took part in D-Day operations.

Keeping RANGER'S CCKW in shape is very easy, the hardest chore is removing the 60# Original Spec DELCO 317 Battery twice a year to check the electrolite, the location is awkward to get to.

All Propreller shafts are in NOS spec and have been balanced with the exception of the short shaft between the transmission and transfer. I was also lucky to find NOS U-Joints with the pressure relief valve. If you can afford it, balancing the propeller shafts is the way to go.

RANGER is still proud of his SWB CCKW, it gets a "tweak" or two every year or so when a a rare trinket arrives in my mail. A year or two ago it was a rare CCKW SWB Spare Tire Lock thanks to Christophe Chevalet in Europe.
It now has matching GI Issue OEM H-700 Keyed Locks for the Ignition and Glove Box and a lot of other hard to find goodies thanks to those seriouis collectors who practice a "two way street" and return favors.

RANGER'S CCKW is standing tall now, and ready for the 2013 Memorial Day Parade. It still gets a tweak here and there as little trinkets such as SWB Spare Tire Lock and most recently, some new GI Issue Leather Straps for the Pioneer Tool Rack. I have added the name of CWO Joseph DeRoche below the passenger window. CWO DeRoche was a mentor and a member of the Main National Guard from 1935 to 1976. He was a member of the 152nd Field Artillery Battalion, 43rd Infantry Division and spent from 1942-1945 pushing the Japanese out of the Solomons, New Georgia, Munda, etc. One of his fellow 152nd members, PFC Lonnie Tasker, was a cook in nthe unit and drove the same CCKW from 1942 thru 1945.Lonnie was on my survey crew for 10 years.
One of the sobering things of having so many WWII veteran friends is not having them around any more to discuss their experiences.

RANGER's CCKW, MB, and M-1 Bomblift will get an extra pat on the hood today, this 68th anniversary of Germany's surrender.
Prior to VE-DAY I used to listen to the engines of dozens of bombers being run up at dawn on their way to the ETO, suddenly, it was quiet.

WWII CCKW TRINKETS make my day, the Closed Cab now has some NOS WWII GM Issue door weather strip along the bottom. It is different than the glossy vinyl coated material by Jim Carter, the OEM is made of black sponge rubber and is still soft and pliable after 7 Decades.
It came from the stock of NOS CCKW cosmetic parts that Memphis at Chambersburg sold me when they were liquidating the bulk of their WWII CCKW, Chev 4X4 and other 40's GI Truck parts back in 1989.

RANGER'S CCKW has had the brake upgrade to Type 3 Hydrovac using an OEM BENDIX HYDROVAC and OEM BENDIX factory upgrade kit.
I've had this kit waiting to be installed for several years and finally took an afternoon to install the upgrade after being motivated by a fatal accident involving an antique truck that experienced brake failure.
The previous Hydrovac on my SWB CKW was a 1968 manufactured French Army Surplus Type 1 that has performed flawlessly sine installation in 1986. There is no comparison between the Type 1 installation and the Type 3 installation which results in more efficient braking.
