Many of you will atempt to find information of certain Bodies that are mounted on the CCKW and not find it. The reason is that some special purpose bodies require a manual that is not Ordnance(TM9) related,, for example the 750 Gallon Fuel Servicing Truck F-3. The instruction Manual for that is USAAF TO 19-25-47, and was issued by the USAAF and USAF as the Truck is for issue to Army Air Force units. There was no TM9, or SNL for that body issued by the Army Ordnance Command,as it is for Aviation Units only. Same goes for the LeROI Air Compressor Truck and Van Bodies that were issued for Map Reading, they will be a TM5 as they are Army Engineer items. The Dental Van on the CCKW will be a Medical Corps responsibility etc. The Bantam Airborne Crane on the CCKW will be a TM5 (Engineers).

Sometimes the information you seek on these websites will result in misleading answers by well meaning collectors with limited background and no manuals to refer to.

It helps to purchase the manuals that pertain to your particular truck.

Amazing, the answers from those that do not consult the Army manuals.

A person was recently looking for information as to details on the behind the cab spare tire carrier as used on Fuel and Water tank versions of the CCKW. His son is building a scale model kit and needs a little detail help. The respose was that there were no CCKW tankers with a spare behind the cab. A knowledgeable person remarked that there is indeed a photo of such a mount on Page 408 of TM9-801. There are photos of the Spare Tire Carrier behind the CCKW 353 Cab of the 700 Gallon Water Tank and 750 Gallon Fuel Tanker versions shown in the ORD7 SNL G508 Dated 1951, yet the misleading answers still flow from some, who insist on fireing from the hip.

Remember the old saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words", and in this case, a peek at the TM will remove any shadow of doubt. The TM is a priceless and reliable source.
