Any personal auto policy may be void if the vehicle is used for a commercial purpose. It is always best to discuss w/ your agent before doing so, and like reading the manual, READ the POLICY.

Lawsuits are big business, imagine if the owner just has minimal antique vehicle insurance on a $50.00 a year policy and has an accident causinf substantial property damage and personal injury. There goes your life savings and worldly goods in a lawsuit. Getting hit by an Army Truck is not just a "love tap".
Renting out a vehicle sort of goes beyond the scope of parades and car shows. I may get criticized for low MV mileage, but I sleep good at night.

As a former insurance defense lawyer, a simple solution is to purchase an umbrella policy which will cover over and above your current policy limits. You can get a $1,000,000 umbrella policy for a couple of hundred dollars a year and sleep well at night. Of course, read the policy and be upfront with your umbrella policy carrier about your vehicles and how you use the vehicles. That way you are covered if your vehicle causes injury or damage at a parade or show.

If you want to rent your vehicles out to movie production companies, then create a company (in most states it is cheap and simple to create a Limited Liability Company online at the Secretary of State, $50 in Colorado) and make your MV an asset of the company. Of course, this may drive your MV insurance costs up but compensation from the movie company can cover that cost. Also, require the movie production company to sign a contract indemnifying you for any damage incurred.

There is always a way to accomplish the task at hand and protect your assets in the process.
