CCKW RESTORATION SHOPS

Post by RANGER »

This is the route to go if you can afford it, it is expensive, but the result is a nice looking truck with turn key reliability.Your truck will run with factory reliability without those non original and unnecessary changes to fuel and electrical systems. It takes deep pockets, there are shops that do excellent work, and some that paint themselves into a corner and just create one crisis after another. One thing to remember though, is that there will be some sheet metal items that will not be available, as well as NOS Canvas Doors etc. The best shop in the USA that comes to mind is Mil Spec in New Jersey that is owned by Bob Rubino. He has many years experience, is honest and has an excellent track record. MV expert Jim Gilmore is his right hand man, they are equally at home on both Armor and Wheeled Vehicles. Bob recently completed the rebuild of a GAF engine for a T-26 (M-26) Tank that saw action at the Remagen Bridge.

Bob has the credentials, and his references are the Military Museums the world over and any Red Ball Chapter Member.

MIL SPEC is restoring a nice 1574 cab for my Danish SWB CCKW. I originally wanted a Closed Cab, but the Open Cab version was the cleanest one available at the time back in 82. Times have changes ae the truck cost $1250.00, and shipping as "roll on" freight was $1350.00. Supreme Surplus in Metuchen, NJ was a great dealer to business with. He was one of the first to import WWII Army trucks back to the US starting at the end of WWII. He was just down the road from the RARITAN ARSENAL. We did business with Seymore Sennet from 1945 until he passed away in 1986.
