Build Card Information

Hi All:

Got a photocopy of my VF-402's Build Card yesterday from the Chrysler museum. I would like to see a "key" or some other data sheet which defines the MANY and various abbreviations and et cetera which denote the specifics of the truck's assemblies.

For instance, "FRONT TIRES" is stamped (printed) "67", while the "REAR TIRES" is stamped "91". I would have thought the front and rear tires were the same????

It also appears holes were punched for some assemblies, such as "GOVERNOR", "GENERATOR", and "GAS TANK", but no notes for "MIRRORS" or "BATTERY".... again, ????

Any help?

Thanks very much!

Hi Ken,

There is a 1946 Dodge job-rated truck film available that I think talks a little about build cards as it shows a truck being custom ordered and built on the assy line - it is available from Vintage Power Wagons along with the Army on Wheels film - the latter is essential viewing for all VC & VF owners:

http://www.vintagepowerwagons.com/produ ... t-home.htm

There was also a job-rated salesman's guide which showed all the options and maybe the codes - I think I may have a copy of this and the film somewhere - I will see if I can find them and let you know if they say anything about the codes.

You might also ask on the Powerwagon forums as someone there may have the secret decoder ring. :)

PS: Can you post a copy of your build card so we can see the details?

Thanks, Robbo! I have the film, but doubt it would answer ALL my questions (as picky as I am); hope you can find something in your brochure.

I just found out that a photocopier I have access to has scanning capabilities- I'll se what I can do. Only problem is, the copy I received isn't very clear across the entire card, and some is barely legible. I'll see what I can make happen.

Best,
-Ken

So, 23rd April 1940 was the date your truck was accepted by the Quartermaster Corps inspectors, but WHATS THE DATE ON THE CARD KEN ?

8~)

I've saved the plate photo and will add it to my VF pile, but it would be nice to know the card date. What about a really good photo / scan of the build card? I know it is a microfiche print, but give it a go.

Sorry Gordon, mis-understood! The date is April 5, 1940.

So, built 5th April, accepted 23rd April

That's what I was trying to get to Ken.

Built down the line on the 5th April 1940, but accepted by Ordnance Inspectors eighteen days later on the 23rd, when the plate was stamped.

Interesting....

I spoke with the Museum manager, and he said he didn't have any way to de-code the info, and laughed and said if he could, he'd be charging a bit more for the cards!

Oh well......
