Did the VF's have the little oil can and bracket (mounted inside the engine compartment on the firewall)?

You love answers like that, don't you?

The basic scenario was that, like the rifle bracket and jerry can carriers, the can wasn't standard equipment at the time the trucks were made, but was retro-fitted to most trucks.

So if your VF has no can, fair enough, but if it has one it isn't "wrong"

There's liable to be a fiar amount of variation in where it was fitted and how it was accessed on these retro-fits I think.

I wondered for a few weeks what n the world the oil can was used for, and then it hit me that the rear generator bearing and the distributr sahft are oil-lubricated. I will install one on each of my trucks.

You were also supposed to use it for door catches, accelerator linkages, pedal linkages and shafts - just general 'stuff' really.

I'd have a close look for two suitable holes and just bolt it on, but if there weren't any holes I'd leave it loose in the toolbox.

There are many things on early trucks that weren't standard, and I never drill holes to mount them 60 years on.

Ah, preserving the originality and avoiding after-service modifications.

Gordon, for imformation only, I was looking throught my TM10-1530(revised October 1, 1942) for something and came across this listed in Group 2210 oil can bracket part number 918566 also list bolts , nuts and lock washer. My WC-52 build date 3/15/43 has one mounted. Bob

That sequence of part numbers (9xxxxx) didn't appear till late half tons and early 3/4 tons Bob.

As I remember the VCs and VFs were all built with 5xxxxx series part numbers issued in 1940 and before, though many of those part numbers were later superceded.
