Looking for information about GP small tent

Post by Florence »

Hello,
hope it's ok posting such a question in this Truck Forum ... if not please move it.
I got a "Tent, General Purpose Type I"
DSA 100-67-C-3027
8340-753-6570
Dated 1959

The canvas and the ropes are in great condition but unfortunately I have only four smaller wooden poles for it. Does anybody know the correct lenght and number of poles needed to errect the GP small?
Also I would like to know which material was common for the poles in 1959.

I found this very interesting site but the TM numbers are different:
http://www.tpub.com/content/tentsshelte ... 40-211-13/

Kind regards

a GP small should have telescoping aluminum poles,
and you better get em quick.
rumor has it the surpluss guys are melting em down for the aluminum.

Of course I would be glad to find original poles - but as I want to use the tent asap AND the shipping to Germany would be too high or take quite long I will rebuild the poles first. Therefore the measurements would be great.

This site might be helpful and has links to vendors. At the minimum, pole numbers and length are detailed.

Great tents. Have fun!

Hi Brent,
Thanks for the great link! The shown poles look the same style as mine.

My 4 wooden poles are 1,75 m long included the metall end.
They look very old, if these could be original I would reproduce the missing ones in the same style.

Hi Sylvia, the poles you have look like the one for the good old 180 lb ex British Army tent. Try getting an ex Brtitish 12 x 12 tent, you can put a Dodge inside one. The 180 is a ridge tent

Hi all, thanks to the forum.
I decided to get some more wooden poles and it looks and work great.
The length which I use is: side poles 1,65 m, door poles 2,00 m, center pole 3,20 m (each plus the spike)
