CCKW GOVERNOR

Post by RANGER »

Just a reminder, the experts at GM and those on the Army board that set the specs for the 2 1/2 Ton CCKW were well aware of the capability of the final version of the CCKW. Consideration was given to tire size, axle ratios and the capability of the GMC 270 engine. 2750 RPM Speed was necessary not to tax the engine and also to ensure that the gear boxes would not suffer from prolonged high speed. What resulted was a perfect balance of engine and truck. GM and ordnance personell stationed worldwide in all theaters of operation continued to moniter the performance of combat vehicles and suggest modifications to improve equipment.

Many would be mechanics have theirs on backwards, and even bottom side up, according to pictures. The DUKW uses the same governor.

It's not always the Governor at fault, it may be the mechanic.
