1/2 Ton Front Stub Axle Dimension

Hiya,
I was chatting to a friend the other night, he is trying to set the axle shaft to steering knuckle (centralizing) position, but tells me the shoulder against which the inner wheel bearing cone rests has been machined. I understand this dimension is critical to correctly positioning the axle 1/2 shaft.

Once were out of lock down ( we are not permitted to leave our homes execpt to go to the supermarket or pharmacy) I will go over to his house to see if we can nut this out.

In the interim, could someone please measure the distance from the shoulder to the outer face of the stub axle where the wheel bearing retainer nuts screw on please. Inches or millimeters are both fine, we speak both languages here in NZ

Many thanks

Ian

Is the 4.382 inches in figure 27 what you're looking for, or do you need something measured off the truck?

Thanks Don, that's what we're looking for.

Here's are an additional two pages from the maintenance manual telling how to adjust the axle:

There are two adjustments, one at the inboard end of the axle (shims under the thrust button) and the other at the outboard end (shims under the axle flange).

Hi Don,
upon re-reading your first reply, I realise that the dimension we are looking for differs from the one shown in Fig 27.
If you look at the upper photo of Fig 27 it shows the measurement from the inner wheel bearing shoulder of the stub axle, to the spline shoulder of the drive axle shaft. My understanding is that my buddy needs the dimension from the wheel bearing shoulder to the end of the threaded section of the stub axle, eg where the wheel bearing retainer nuts screw on.

Hope you can help.
Many thanks
Ian
