I love that early darker paint on the GMC's.

Paint or finish ?

Post by Gordon_M »

If it wasn't for where and when that shot was taken, I'd suggest they just coated OD paint with a coat of diesel or paraffin for preservation purposes.

I've seen a few vehicles with that finish as a result of diesel-coating - it's particularly popular in the UK for agricultural plant and the like that is used within a mile or two of the sea as it is a cheap and easy anti-salt measure.

In the early 60's when we lived in S. Fla. my Dad (career Navy) used to wash his new new car with a mix of water and kerosene, guess that is where he got it from.
