WC-54 Windshield frame outer seal

I'm ready to install the outer seal on the windshield frame on my WC-54. Does the smooth side of the seal go to the inside or the outside? Should I use adhesive or just lock it into the channel?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It will taper one way so it will only look right installed that way. I just glue them in with the screen on the vehicle, and pull the screen almost shut to hold it in place till the glue sets.
There is a small pressed ridge on the face of the cowl and the seal should go right up to that. Normally a seal that is in good condition and leaking is on a badly-adjusted screen - too high, too low, not centred side to side, or too far "in" or "out" of the vehicle.
