Fuel tank protection

I'm installing the restored fuel tank back into my WC52. Does anyone recommend either rubber or felt as a protective strip along the fuel tank securing straps where they make contact with the tank? Like as in the G503's??

My WC12 had what looked like the remains of a canvas like material originally. I used repro body webbing when I put it back together. It was a similar looking product.

I'm wondering if that body cloth would hold onto moisture and eventually cause some rot? Living in the humid South and knowing that solid fuel tanks are like hens teeth, maybe I'll drown some of the same cloth in oil, and let it dry, then apply..

You can get synthetic webbing that looks the part but does not absorb moisture like cotton. It will still let moisture wick in between the threads but will not hold it and will dry quickly.

A very nice rubber strip is available at supply places to fit the steel bands. This method will ensure a waterproof seal right across underneath the bands.

MWM has the proper welting available for the gas tank straps.
