I have for years, dreamed of owning a restored WC53/64, but have finnaly realized, that I do not have the income to purchase one, I just sit on the sidelines and drool over

Wolfen,
since I was a teenager I have lusted after a 1962 Daimler SP250, a little Brit 2.5 liter fiberglass sports car. Like you I have come to realise that I will never own one so I just drool as one drives by me.

O, Come on Ian There are 3 available in England at the moment from 66k -103k Aud . You would have it in your slush fund . Not a problem to a tycoon like You . Ha Ha

Hi Kaegi,
yes, thats the one. Only built around 2,200 before Jaguar acquired Daimler and cancelled any further production as it was competing with the E Type.
Hey Ray, my nest egg isn't as big as yours, and its all in Kiwi dollars
Anyways I would probably kill myself in one, they do 125 miles per hour in a straight line

I drove one of those once. one of the best sounding engines I have ever heard. I have always wanted to see another hemi that small get built again. so few parts and lots of power and efficiency

G,Day Ian.. Do they have a straight road in New Zealand ? I just watched that show about the train trip to the bottom end of the south Island .There were a few sections of straight rail . They never got to the Bottom . Only as far as the Milford sounds . I thought that the bottom was butt or buff or something like that .Ray

yep, we actually have a few straight roads, not as many as Aussie though. Straight roads (especially in Aussie) show a distinct lack of imagination on the part of the surveyors
An Aussie once said that if we ran a big roller over New Zealand, it would be bigger than Aussie

Love Ian's comment that the Daimler was competing with the E-Type.
I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but when you compare the Daimler with the other pretty and, indeed beautiful, sports cars (both British and European) of the period, as they say, "It has a face only a mother could love".
The SP250 was launched as the Daimler Dart in April 1959 at the New York Motor Show, where it was unofficially voted as the ugliest car at the show. Chrysler, whose Dodge division owned the trademark for the "Dart" model name, ordered Daimler to change the name under threat of legal action. With little time to come up with a new name, Daimler used the project number, SP250, as the model number.
My opinion only and it would be a sad world if we all wanted the same thing.

your right, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I love the SP250. I also love the E Type and most classic Brit sports cars so I guess I'm not completely without taste

Kaegi, yes that engine was used is a Daimler model of the Mark 11 Jaguar but alas it was a little under powered for such a heavy car. The engine was designed by Edward Turner who was famous for designing the Triumph 500 speed twin motor cycle engine.

how hard is it to find one of those engines?

I suspect it would be reasonably easy to find in the UK, Jaguar used them in the Mk11 body for a number of years. they come up for sale on Trademe (NZ's answer to eBay) from time to time.
