Source for WC51 Odometer Numbers

Post by G. Miskovsky »

All,

Anyone have a source for the stick on odometer numbers for a early long needle speedo.

I tried to use the COREL files you can find on a popular J**p site no joy!

thanks

Gus,
I used odometer numbers from DCMClassics for my WC-3, I don't know if those will work on your WC-51.

Hi Gus,

(That was my nickname in high school). I created the odometer font that I think you're referring to from the G503 forums. Who made your speedometer? Is it a Stewart Warner, King Seeley or other??

If you need numbers that are different than those I created before then the first thing I would need are some good straight on photos of each digit 0 through 9 and an accurate measurement of the height of the one and eight, and the width of the eight.

A picture like this is what you're after...

from that I can trace the digits and create a new font file like this (mine on top, original on the bottom):

Once we have the characters, then we will need to figure out the length you need for the strips to go around each odometer wheel, which will dictate the character spacing.

I would say it is close. I would probably make some changes to the three, five and perhaps the seven. Who manufactured your speedometer?? Look like your wheels have spacers between. will need to know the precise width of the wheel, and the circumference. Pick a number on the wheel, and wrap a piece of paper aroun the wheel and mark off the circumference. You'll also need a "landmark" on the wheel, so you know how to position the new strips. I don't see any visible seams where the strips wrap around the wheels. What numbers are they located between??

Kirk,

My Speedo was made by Moto-Meter. The circumference is 2.38 in. Width is .210 in. Can't find a seam, been using a loop....no joy.

That looks great! What do you print your numbers on? Vinyl? or decal material?

All I've done in this venture is provide the custom font and artwork for the odometer rolls. Here is a link that describes how some of used them to restore their speedometers.

I wish this information would have been available when I worked on my WC-3 speedometer. Now I want to remove it and work it over again! Excellent post!
