Bolt Lengths

Hi folks,
Is it possible to cross reference part numbers of bolts/screws/studs in the master parts catalogue. For instance I am trying to identify the correct bolt size & length for the transfer case mounting brackets on a WC62/63. I know the originals were 7/16 but not the correct length. The bolts were drilled for split pins.

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,
Yes it is possible. I'll check the ORD 9SNL G-507 or, if I can find them I'll measure the ones I replaced on my WC63.
Regards,
Chris.

Right,
The manual lists them as,
Group 0800 Transfer Assembly. Dodge Part No CC-599878 Screw, mounting, transfer,(hex-hd dld.f/lkg-wire, lead-pltd., 1/2" 13 NCx1in.)
I have found the original bolts that I replaced and they confirm this are you sure yours are 7/16"?

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi Chris,
According to my master parts catalogue (MPC) , I think the CC599878 is the 1/2" bolt that bolts the transfer case to the mounting brackets on the 1/2 & 3/4 ton trucks, ie the single speed transfer case. In the MPC ( Page 192 Sub Group 0805) it lists 4 x CC928715 and 4 x CC928716 to bolt the transfer case brackets to the chassis cross member. I cannot cross reference these to the size and length though. Its the bolts that attach the transfer case mounting brackets to the chassis that I am trying to identify.

Many thanks

Ian

Ah, got you Ian, that's me not reading fully. I, for some reason read drilled for lock wire??? It must be an age thing :?
Sorry I don't have the MPC but, what we have now are,
CC-928715 BOLT, transfer bracket to crossmember (hex.-head., S, lead-pltd., dld.f/c-pin, 7/16-20NF x 1") (up to and including serial No.82015372).......4
CC-928716 BOLT, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------, 7/16-20NF x 1 1/8) ( up to and including serial No. 82015372)..4
Also in there is
CC-1088256 BOLT, transfer bracket to crossmember (hex-hd., S, cd-pltd., dld.f/c-pin, 7/16-20NF x 7/8") (after serial No.82015372)............................4
CC-1088257 BOLT, ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------, 7/16-20NF x1" ) (after serial No. 82015372)............................4
And
NUT, hex., slotted, std., s-fin., S cd-pltd., 7/16-20NF-2.............................................................................................8
PIN, cotter, split, S., pin, 3/32 x 1 1/8 in...............................................................................................................8

I hope this helps?

Cheers,
Chris.

Chris,
I know the "age" feeling but I try not to admit it
Doesn't work though.

Cheers
Ian

Great, I'm pleased we got there in the end.
If there's any others you need help with just give me a shout, we mature gentlemen should stick together.

Cheers,
Chris.

I have never noticed or heard of "lead plated" before. interesting. Also I wonder why so many changes in length.?? maybe the thickness of the insulator pads changed

Yeah, it was the first time I'd seen it when I looked up the bolts. The later ones are cad plated so who knows? I'm sure someone on here will be able to comment.
As you say the thickness of the insulator pads may have changed,(although there is only one size and thickness of insulator pad listed), or, the steel used on the crossmember on the later trucks may have been thicker?

Cheers,
Chris.

there also could have been some cast bronze or steel brackets that would have been thicker requiring longer bolts. I believe most the brackets were stmaped steel. you do see varying castings on other parts like some pillow blocks on 6x6 were bronze and some windshield mounts on the cowl were bronze. this was common in mass production if the materials to make out of iron were short that day they would run bronze.
