NOS GMC FLAT SURFACE FLYWHEELS

Post by RANGER »

These are 1940s GMC Factory stock and have the correct 4 BOLT PATTERN to fit the CCKW crankshaft, they are complete with Ring Gear and coated with Cosmoline. If you believe the negative hype about those WWII CCKW Clutches, then these will be a "must have".

The hype over the clutch is due to poor driving technique and mechanically challenged owner, 562,000 CCKWs and GMCs' continued post war installation of the same clutch into the mid 50s civilian GMC trucks is testimony to their reliability. The CCKW was tested under every concievable condition at Proving Grounds and world wide testing sites. Army Ordnance had a system of Civilian Service Technicians, and Ordnance specialist stationed world wide to report problems in the field and to report back to Office of Chief of Ordnance. GMC and Ordnance would then provide for upgrades on the production line or publish Belletins and Changes to the Manuals in adjustment or maintenance methods.
The CCW 6x4 was also a successful truck although it did not have provision for low range.

The key to CCKW Clutch life is good driving technique, there are some long time owners who are not a good match of man and machine, and will be quick to blame the machine.

These are genuine WWII Surplus and the last known NOS to be available anywhere. They were buried away and forgotten for 50 years at a dealer near the old Presque Isle Army Air Field. $200.00 plus Fed Ex. Only a couple available.
