First vehicle

Ok, so my kid is getting into the age range where I need to start thinking of ' the first car'.

I would like to get something quasi-reliable, but would need preventive maintenance every now and again


I prefer older...as in I want the kid to 'feel ' the car/ road and know by sense when something is off. On that note manual shift would be fine.

Any thoughts/ ideas?...doesn't have to be od green, but hey who knows.
