1942 Ford Carb Leak

At long last, me and my 1942 Ford 1-1/2 ton reside in the same zip code. Upon my unloading today I observed some leakage around the Carb Bowl gasket. Figuring this to be an engine fire waiting to happen, it needs to go on the fix sooner rather than later list.
My concern is now it starts up FAST. (my 2013 truck doesn't even start that quickly). I don't want to screw it up!
I'm pretty good mechanically, but adjusting carbs is more of an art.
Anyone have any wisdom to impart of fixing the leak but preserving the fact it runs good?
