Numbers on M6 bomb truck

am now ready to put the hood numbers back on the bomb truck. when I was sanding out the hood I found the hood numbers applied in two different ways. What is the correct way for 1944. One way they where applied was:

USA 0074XXX

the other way they where applied was:

USA
0074XXX

I couldn't tell witch way was first or second because they used the same location for the Number just the USA was moved.
