Details for Ambulance wanted
Hi all,
I'm searching for some parts or information to make Florence more detailed.
Does anybody now where to get the canvas belts for holding the stretchers?
Originals or nice reproductions would be fine.
At the moment I use some from the 1960s which work but don't look that nice If these belts are not available, are the metal parts still available? Think than it would be also possible to make them by myself.
Florence inside:
searching for:
Does anybody have the original small metal hooks on the wall? I could reproduce them by myself but would like to know the exact measurments, just have this snapshot from another Ambu
Where these wiper arms used on Dodges, too?
If not I'm searching for the original or reproduced wiper arms.
Thanks for your help

BTW: somebody asked, yes, the Dodge and Reo Xmas picture was painted by me

Hi Sylvia, I can tell you something that I found out from a nurse who crewed the vehicles. There were blackout curtains across the front behind the drivers seat and across the back doors. I have a link that came from here to an American WW2 medical history site. I'll add the link later if someone else doesen't. Just wish I could paint like you. Wiper arms look right. you can get a collar that fits the wiper motor spindle on Series 2 Land Rovers, these screw onto the existing spindle and allow you to fit modern blades for road work, they go on and off very easily.

Hi Tony, Thanks a lot for the information and praising my artwork. Of course yes,
I'm happy to get information about all other details, too
edit: found this great page: http://www.med-dept.com did you mean this one?
I know the lights are not original but as they come from a German tank I will keep them as it is so crazy and ads to her history.
I already have a curtain holder behind the front seats, mine is just a single metal tube. Would be glad to receive pictures of the ones for the backdoors.
I gave up with finding a wiper motor in Germany...no I have put a wooden lever for using the wiper by hand However that works fine as long as my hand works fine
Oh I forgot...theres another small piece which I'm looking for, the two tiny covers on the windscreen sides.

Hi Sylvia:
Glad ya still have Florence and are continuing to improve her (which is hard to do considering how nice she is). Try Beechwwod Canvas as they may have it. Also try the usual players, Midwest and Vintage for those needed hardware parts. I think I have a schematic of the 54 from Dodge and will email ya it IF I still have it. I'm not on my computer now, I'm upstairs on the wife's and still haven't figured out how to make the two talk to each other again. Oh, your still using the vacuum wipers right? OH NO! CHEMICAL WARFARE! Dog gas!

Hi Sylvia, yes it was Med=dept I was thinking of. I have a friend who works as a contractor for the US Forces. I have asked him if he can get isignia for Carol to go in the back of Florence's sister Katy in Jersey. I have a lot of photos of Her. I can keep my eyes open for stuff for you at the sales in UK if you like. Dressings etc come about quite often and isignia.
The way you paint the rest of us should Lobby Bart and Gordon and get you to Design a Dodge Forum patch for us.
PS I can probably get you a pair of 12volt wiper motors if thats any help.

Hi,
Ugg, yes as long as I play with her I will do my best to improve her step by step - it's a lot fun. Beachwood was a great idea (don't know why I forgot them, I allways looked on their site while searching for the Command) Now I wrote them a mail.
Not really - no, I don't use the vakuum with the wipers - I use my hand to bring the one on the drivers side in motion. I was on the hurry last August to go to the Belgium Wings and Wheels, couldn't find a motor, so I build in a wooden lever.
Tony, thanks for your offer, as I will go to Beltring this year I will wait with the small decoration pieces as I love to spot them out on the market there. A 12 Volt wiper motor which fits into the small space and fits to the original hole to the outside would be fantastic One would be enough, as I will leave the other one (which is sometimes still working) original.
Pictures of Katy would be great, not only for the inside details but I'm also always interested in other Ambulances.
A Dodge Forum patch - good idea...
Very interesting medic site, too, Brian!

A page for Ambulance owners would be great, think there is already this nice page http://home.zonnet.nl/dodgewc54/index.htm which shows many Ambulances.
What I would like would be a page which shows every side AND the inside of an Ambulance. I made many pics from different WCs on meetings but allways from the outside.

I have original splint hangers - I can get dimensions from them and send the measurements. Email at jim088@hotmail.com and I will send. I am also looking for the hanging straps for the stretchers - I have one original strap but need four for my ambulance.

Thanks a lot Jim for your very kind and fast help! As soon as I have reproduced the splint hangers I will post a picture here.
Beachwood has already answered: they have the straps for Ambulances. All three different sets, the upper litter hanger straps and the ones on the toolboxes.
The factory diagrams are fine, but I think there are small differences between the 1/2 ton and the 3/4 ton. For example the wooden blocks on the backdoors and the toolboxes on the right hand side. Maybe there are more differences. In the Emile Becker book is a diagram for the 3/4 ton Ambu. There are no curtain holder at the backdoors, think photos from the wartime or a preserved vehicle would be best for reconstruction of the used interieur.
