Axle / Spindle bronze bushings

Post by PareosWC »

Gents- I am attempting to be smart about the mechanics on my WC52, and to not just 'throw money' at it.

In doing that, is it best to replace the (4) bronze spindle and axle tube bushings, or is this rarely needed due to a lack of wear? I can gauge them out, but not sure if wiser heads already know that they always need replacing anyways?

I've replaced the knuckle bearings, races, felt, and hub seals, so what's another $104...

No idea, but I've never had to replace any.

I am restoring a WC 53 Carryall..... ordered and have on hand every part available to replace all the brass bushings etc..... I only want to do this once! I would recommend while you have it down.... just replace them and anything else... hope this helps you make a decision.. Bob

The bushings were pretty much the only part I did not have to replace on my 1/2 ton. I wouldn't replace them if they are still good. But if you will feel more confident for the $100 go ahead. No real harm either way.

Since we're on the subject of items that may or may not be needed, is the 'Knuckle Felt Spring' mandatory as well?

I think the flet spring is necessary. it puts a bit of pressure on the seal making it do a better job.

if you do the bushings there is an inner seal to do at the same time

Replaced that as well, Kaegi. Went to place the axle spindle on, and just happened to inspect the inside...

This WC is nickle and diming me... How does a spindle get chewed up like this?!
