Evening Ian

I use 1/2" MDF for the cross bearers, sanded down at the ends to give a slight bow on the roof, and standard hardboard which is about 1/8" for the roof panel itself, plus a layer of vinyl which will add another 1/16" or more to the thickness, plus paint.

That combination has worked well on the couple of roofs that I've done, WC 53 and WC 36, plus it is cheap and easy to replace if damaged.

Thanks Gordon. I have some ply wood that I was considering using and size is just about perfect. Did you glue the MDF into place or screw them through the bearers?

I will definitely put a slight bow in the panel and will waterproof the canvas once it's in place.

Cheers

According to the manuals they used "Masonite" which I understand was very similar to modern hardboard but slightly softer, so probably slightly thicker too.

There are a lot of factors to that roof, maybe I should cut and paste from my Carryall roof article if I can find it.
