I didn't know where you get these, but my question is, how early is your WC56 that you want brass data plates?

When did they change that to zink plates?

I have a September 1942 WC56 and I think that this one has no brass plates. I'm right?

My CC is Jun 42. So it is early. The exact switch from brass to zinc... I don't know, but I imagine starting in 43 somewhere would likely be the cutoff date

Robert Horse's user name on eBay appears to be: Hornedataplates.

Don't know about this forum or g503.

So, I'm not sure if brass is the right stuff...

I am going with brass. I figure that 42 was likely a transition year. So zinc maybe correct, but brass looks nicer. Besides data plates from that era are typically thicker than what we do today. I believe alot of the changes/differences are based on cost. But in the end its the individual owners choice. I cant get wrapped around an axel over which is correct since the majority of people think the CC is a jeep. Yes, a lot of this is public education, but let's face it strapping a canvas bucket or attaching a bridge plate amounts to the same thing...eye candy.

My garage: Restored Old Henry, and have had this WC51 on the road around 3 years now... Currently finishing a brace of Ben Hur trailers, and starting a 67 Galaxie fastback. Concurrent with the WC I restored a 74 TR6... Oh the joys.

I did the same with my October 42 WC-51: And I got my data plates from Horne in Poland. WELL worth the money!

I dont think brass or zinc is an early or late thing. I owned a WC53 built way into 43 and it had brass. I think the reason its random is because during war time is a factory ran out of a material, say zinc, and they had brass there, they would just make a run out of brass. many many manufactured american goods had brass data tags back then so makes sense they would have it around. I use brass because I like the look and it doesn't corrode like the zinc does especially on open cabs if they get exposed to the elements.
