outer windshield frame to cowl seal
Hi guys
I just got a new W/S frame to cowl seal for my Aug 1943 WC52. The old one in there is a rubber flat blade type seal and the new one is a rubber bulb type seal. Was there a change in the part or is the old one I have in there incorrect?
Thanks

Re: outer windshield frame to cowl seal
The one I used for my WC52 was wrapped in canvas and wasn't rubber.

G,Day Steve . I think Zeph is right . The early ones were Rope covered in canvas . Later ones or replacement were probably like Jeep seals ,t rubber . I don,t thing that it would matter that much ,so long as it keeps the water out .I would think that the early ones made from canvas would retain water and probably rust out the window or cowl ,or both . Re: outer windshield frame to cowl seal
You guys are off a bit. Early on the seals were rubber. As the war went on and rubber became a critical supply material, alternate materials came into play, hence the canvas type. The rubber ones that we are supplying are made from an original same off an NOS windshield frame.

John has described it correctly. That seal, plus a number of others like the front fender to cab infill, were changed from rubber to canvas. I think this happened slightly later than the change from leather to canvas for things like seat covers, armrests, and tailgate chain wraps.JBizal wrote:You guys are off a bit. Sorry to jump in but, could I ask how is the canvas or rubber seal are fixed to the screen please?
Cheers,
Chris.

Re: outer windshield frame to cowl seal
G,Day Chris. The canvas ones have a inner core of rope , covered by canvas, then a smaller core on the outside of the larger core . This then slides into the retaining notch on the bottom of the wind shield . Imagine a figure 8 .With on pierce , 1/2 in and the other half 1/8 in . this 1/8 part of the seal then slides into the retainer on the bottom of the wind shield . Hope this explains it . Ray

That explains it great Ray, thanks.
I didn't know if there was another type of fixing as my outer screen doesn't have the notch in it. I'm not sure if the bottom part of my screen has been replaced sometime in the past.
Cheers,
Chris.
