Re: WC 57 in Auction...
The dash is missing the volt meter cut out and switch. Probably a WC-51 or 52 cowl.

Must have been built like Johnny Cash automobile judging by the title......
1942-45 Dodge WC57 3/4-Ton, 4x4 Command Car - Modified
3 year build. Also the "Modified" cold be anything.
Nice price for a mis-match, put-together vehicle.....

Re: WC 57 in Auction...
There's a reason for the VERY high asking price, though:
" This Dodge WC57 Command Car is reputed to be General Patton’s actual vehicle."
Notice wording: "REPUTED"
And the real clincher to it's origin:
"It features flags depicting General Patton’s rank, custom armor plating, as well as high volume horns and a siren. "
OMG! Where's my BIG wallet? I have to bid on this one and be sure to get it

Re: WC 57 in Auction...
Looking at pictures...looks like a sloppy cosmetic job. Notice no pictures of the engine. If it was Pattons, then why no circle around the star. Also, I thought Patrons was in a museum somewhere. Any way, I would say the auction is engaging in puffery for the unawares.
I would feel bad for someone who paid that much for it.

- My garage: Restored Old Henry, and have had this WC51 on the road around 3 years now... Currently finishing a brace of Ben Hur trailers, and starting a 67 Galaxie fastback. Concurrent with the WC I restored a 74 TR6... Oh the joys.
Re: WC 57 in Auction...
I have SEVERE doubts it was Patton's vehicle... Better find some actual documentation, or someone will probably sue them for misrepresentation...

Re: WC 57 in Auction...
Under the law the term "reputed" would probably be found ambiguous. Misrepresentation occurs when some makes a statement about a current or past fact. The difference between false pretence, misrepresentation, and larceny by trick vary between jurisdictions. One side...the larceny is to "deprive possesion" the other is to gain "title".
I agree documentation would be good, but let's face it the vehicle is probably klugged together, so there is no providence.
I wonder if the car were sold at auction if the Statute of Frauds would apply in that the wording is enough to allege fraud in obtaining the contract. Oh well back to studying for finals.
