WC 62 with a 40mm Bofors

Post by G. Miskovsky »

All,

Just thought that I would share, never seen this configuration. This guy is selling a Halftrack on Epay. He includes pictures of a WC62 with an AA gun on it, in his text he states that is also selling the WC.

Must say that I had to look through the Becker and Dentzer Dodge book to see if they mentioned this set-up.

Have you guys seen this type of rig before?

Nope, the French used the Bofors 40 mm on the GMC at the very end of the war, and then later in Indochina. But never on a Dodge WC 62/63. The recoil stress on the GMC frames was grave enough, they tended to crack after a while. My gues is that he picked up the Bofors somewhere, but without the base, and decided to make up a Portee type of vehicle on the Dodge WC 62.

I am on board with Goran, just a made up truck. Even the bed does not look correct. it looks like the guy just cut some sheets of metal to make the bed.

PS, Gus, do not go get any crazy ideas about putting a Bofors gun on the WC51!

Sweden has had a few quite funky experimental military vehicles. Like this 1946 10,5 cm Infanterikanonvagn, based on an early Dodge WC52 .

The last photo is of a Brockway truck in the background. Probably a Bridgelayer version, as I know that the Swedish army adapted those and put them to good use for many years. The remainder were sold off to the public in the 1980's
