Ray Barracks Friedberg Tour 2016 - The Army Home of Elvis

Post by 12th Air Force »

Hello Folk's,

last weekend we had the 9th Elvis weekend at Friedberg and the 15th European Elvis Festival at Bad Nauheim.
As some of you might know was Elvis stationed in Germany from 1958 to 1960 and had rented a house at Goethestrasse at Bad Nauheim, that is today known as the "European (or German) Graceland". It was his only homeplace outside of the States.

His garrison, the Ray Barracks at the nearby City of Friedberg became his "Army Home of Elvis". Since the closing of the installation in 2007 the area is owned by the German Gov. and for sale. Because of the fact, that the authorities are not willed to sell the area in segments up to now no investor could be found.
So the buildings are mostly untouched since 2007 and protected by guards with watch dogs. The only chance to get access is the anual Elvis Weekend Event, organized by the City of Friedberg and the Elvis Presley Association (EPV).

So here are 82 photos from this years guided tour with the major of the City and some of our historic vehicles in place.
In addition some more that have been taken at the Cadillac Parade and the Wetterau Museum at Friedberg.
