Spare Parts

Post by FISCH »

So, been gathering the tool kit...

But, thought I would ask for conversation sake if the WCs had a separate spare parts roll or kit bag.

I know of the small one for the small parts like the valve stems and black out drive bulb. I am also aware that many later models had the spare parts drawer in the front (my dodge is an early 42), but with all of that said was there a canvas spare parts roll like I have seen some of for the jeep?...anyone got photos?

Master Parts List would tell, but mine is hundreds of miles away.

I just use the jeep-type bag for mine, with jack, handle, and crank under the seat.

One of the "great things" about growing old. When I got my WC 52 it had the tools under the front seats like Gordon just stated. Being old, well I forgot about it, this last winter while working on the WC52, I lifted the seats up....oh, WOW! still my ponding heart!
I am sure to be repeated again in a couple of years.

My garage: Restored Old Henry, and have had this WC51 on the road around 3 years now... Currently finishing a brace of Ben Hur trailers, and starting a 67 Galaxie fastback. Concurrent with the WC I restored a 74 TR6... Oh the joys.

The standard rectangular bag with the triangle flap & tie strap is listed in the IPC...

Hello Fisch,
Sorry, but I didn't understand your question. I have shown you two original Dodge WC bags in this thread.

Please, what is now your new question?

Just a guess, but he might be enquiring about something like this:

This was for the 1/4 ton. Was something similar issued to the Dodge's?

OK, here is what I could find. The 1st 2 are from a WC52/53 manual low quality B/W copy of TM9-808 photos of the spare parts kit, and the tool kit. The 3rd photo is the tool kit photo out of a 1943 WC63 manual. I have looked in 2 WC63 manuals a 1943, and a 1945 manual, neither one shows a photo of a spare parts kit.

Hope this has what you are looking for.....

Yes, seen it. Same TM used on the WC 56.

My question was/is was there ever a designated "bag"/"roll" for just the spare parts?

I know the Dodges have a spare parts drawer (late model)... so did the parts get piled in loose? Or did they use the same spare parts roll as the jeep?

Of course it was likely the latter, but just undocumented or maybe it was a unit level thing,...just being curious.

They were put in lose, and the drawer also has a small tray on the left side to hold the small items.

All my lights, shear pins, tape, and cotter pins, are still in the original boxes.

Thanks.

As I have an early command car (no drawer) I didn't know and asked the question.

One other thing.

My March 1943 TM9-810 manual do not even list a spare kit. My 2 1945 manuals list the spare parts, and says to store it in the metal parts box.

I'm not sure if the early WC63 even had a spare parts kit. I'm also not sure if there was any late 43, or 44 manuals for the 63.

I'm sure they had them, but not sure how they were packaged. Its worth noting that the list above must be fairly late as it refers to the 'spare parts box under map table" which none of the early trucks had.

You could read into it that the parts box on the firewall was provided on later trucks specifically because the early trucks had no formal container for the small parts.
