LWB FUEL TANKS

Post by RANGER »

Strange as it may seem, the US Army contracted for several hundred LWB CCKW Fuel Tanks that were threaded for the small neck fill pipe. These tanks were dated 1966. They were surplused to a major surplus dealer. There was no ready supply of the filler necks to sell with these tanks. A gentleman located two NOS necks in Norway, one for him and one for me. I ended up with a semi trailer load, around two hundred, of these tanks about a dozen years ago, shared about 14 with the Red Ball Transport Club and wholesaled the rest to another old time dealer.
There are no small neck CCKW Fill Pipes to be found, I have only seen the two I previously mentioned.
Why the US Gov't did not order the later version large neck tank will always be a mystery.
