CCKW and CHEV 4X4 BANJO AXLE TERNEPLATE DRIVE FLANGE GASKETS

Post by RANGER »

The CCKW and Chevrolet 4X4 are noted for rear hub and axle flange problems. NOS rear Hubs with undamaged threads are starting to dry up. Best way to prolong the life of the hubs and properly tighten and seal the axle flange to the hub is to use the OEM "TERNEPLATE" soft metal gaskets, no paper or silicone, and to maintain the proper wheel bearing adjustment. Loose wheel bearings combined with paper or silicone are a sure way to invite worn out threads in the rear hubs.
I have been witnessing this problem ever since surplus CCKW and G-506 Trucks showed up on the surplus market in the 40's, some owners resorted to welding the axle flanges to the hubs.

Been warning Banjo Axle G-506 and G-508 owners to install OEM TERNEPLATE Gaskets on the axle flanges for years.
