We will analyze in detail what happened to manufacturing.
30,241 units were ordered. Everything indicates that 26,002 units were manufactured wc-54.
26,002 units were accepted by the army.

Orders, units and reg.nº were the following:

These are the orders and units. If we add the units, go us 30.241.
But only Dodge, delivered 26.002 units and 26.002 units were accepted by the army.
Therefore, 4.239 units were not made.

Also, we know that the units produced per year were:
1942: 9.899
1943: 13.156
1944: 2.947......Total 26.002 units.

So far, so good, O.K.?.

Now we have a problem. These 4.239 units, what the order we subtract?. In the first orders?, I think not. In the last orders?, I think YES.

If we admit the latter assumption (last orders), we have three solutions:
1.- Subtract the last order.
2.- Subtract the penultimate order.
3.- Subtract from both.

I am for the first option, because the registration numbers are consecutive, but I admit not a very strong reason.

So if we take the first option, the last order would be:
W-374-ORD-6322 (7.091 - 4.239) 2.852 units. 732636 to 735487

Now, we take the number of body: 24.496,

26002 - 24496 = 1506
735487 - 1506 = 733981.

Registration number: 733981

So, Divin is right.

The basis of this study is the belief that numbers are correlative body and start with nº 0001.

The bad part is that I do not agree, but right now I can not prove.

So I give the reason to Divin.

I've been racking my brain about something I saw a while back while looking through the build cards on record for the year 1945:


June 1 1945 81777902
19026 units built (In 151 days)
Feb 21 1945 81758876
1595 units built (In 8 days)
Feb 13 1945 81757281
15833 units built (In 1 day)
FEB 12 1945 81741448
209 units built (In 7 days)
FEB 5 1945 81741239

Totalt units built between Feb 5-June 1= 36663

My Dodge WC51 was built on February 12 1945 (81741448) and the day after, February 13 1945, Dodge WC51 with frame number 81757281 was built. So, they made 15.833 [!] Dodge WC's in 24 hours (One every 10 (ten) seconds...), according to my calculations. That's almost as many as were made in the 151 day period between February 21 and June 1....

Was my Dodge built at an earlier date and received it's frame number later, or what the heck happened?

Date Built is not the day it was manufactured, is the day which was supported by the army.

Look at the Motor number and the Body number.

81741448...12.Feb.1945: Motor Nº: 227920...Body Nº: 173042. WC-51

81757281...13.Feb.1945: Motor Nº: 228398...Body Nº: 173306. WC-51

Motor Nº: 227920 - 228398 = 479 units. TOTAL

Body Nº: 173042 - 173306 = 265 units. WC-51

479 -265 = 214 WC-52

Between Monday and Tuesday, 12 and 13 February 1945, Dodge delivered the army, at least:
WC-51: 265 units & WC-52: 214 units. MINIMUM.

O.K.?

But, but...Why the difference between the chassis numbers?. I do not know.

For that and other reasons it is important to have more B.C.

Yes. Everything depends on the needs of the army had.

But in your case, did not stay long in stock. Possibly one month maximum.

In early 1945 I do not know how many units produced per day Dodge, We imagine that 250 per day.

The difference between the chassis numbers 81741448 & 81757281 ( 12 & 13 Feb.) it is 15.834 units.

This means that many, many cars and many, many days of work (60?) in stock.

Juan is right. Don't confuse the Build Card date, - the date it was built, with the Date of Delivery.

The Date of Delivery is the date it was accepted by Quartermaster or Ordnance inspectors, and could vary from the same date as the Build Card to a month later, if, for example, the inspector found something wrong with the vehicle, ( or the batch ) and put them all through a rework cycle.

Hate to tell you this, but the bonnet number found by Carol is missing a digit....furthermore, there is no way that that low a registration number would have been assigned to a 44 ambulance....so the bonnet must have been
replaced/switched at some point...here again are your options:
