Noisy corporation(banjo) transfer case?

Post by RANGER »

Shouldn't be, they should not have noises that intensify with speed to the point they are annoying, especially when driven within the speed ranges displayed on the shifting data plate. Excess noise in a transfer is a sign of wear, and repair is necessary. To put it simple, a CCKW in good mechanical condition should function without excessive noise up to 45 MPH. Remember that more speed means faster wear. CCKWS should be able to be driven all day long at 40 MPH with no problems.
There are some who suggest that 55 MPH is OK when powered with the 302 engine, not so, as the gears generate more heat, the high speed will cause excess wear as the gears were designed for low speed power. A Banjo Transfer in good condition will not be much noisier at 45 MPH than it is at 30 MPH.
