E-Bay

Post by Gordon_M »

There was one really nice example of this truck on E-Bay a year or two back.

I don't know if it was fully original, or just the right basic truck dressed up, but it was very nice.

I don't know of any European survivors though.

Brian
I own a 1918 Dodge Light Repair Truck. There are to my knowledge 3 remaining examples from the slightly more than 1000 made. The one in CA is at the Fort McArthur museum. The second is at the 28th div museum in PA. The third is at my house
I was actually building one of these rare trucks when I learned of the existence of my DLRT , It was owned for 50 years by a gentleman in northern CA who at age 83 felt it was time for a new owner for the Dodge.
I have extensive photo library on both of the other 1918 DLRTs. Both of the other trucks have had post ww 1 modifications made to them. They are BOTH original although the one in CA which was on ebay 6 years ago has had significant body sheet metal welded to replace the original riveted body panels. Both of the other trucks have had electric lights added . Original trucks had only kerosene side and tail lamps and Acetylene searchlight.
Mine is essentially complete except for the correct spotlight and side light brackets. It does retain the original frame for the canvas driver's covering. The last owner did repaint it years ago unfortunately obliterating the original paint scheme and numbers. It had been a farmer's truck after ww1 then sat in a barn from where the last owner got it. I welcome any questions or comments
Here are pictures as I got it.

That is the place. They have one minus all original lights, some type of hard top and windshield added (possible Army modification?) along with electric headlights and electric start, but really nice original sheet metal except the spare tire carrier has been shortened . I have attached a photo. Enjoy...I have HUNDREDS of other pictures

Guys I will put up more pictures of my m1918 DLRT but here is a ww1 era picture of a brand new fleet of trucks in France about 1918 . Note the camo paint scheme
http://www.globalarray.net/user/bobspic ... T00504.jpg
here is a pic of the one in Ft MacArthur San Pedro CA.Correct lights and brackets Added 1920s vintage DB headlights . This is an original truck with several areas of sheet metal replaced on the body but well done and running. Has original complete spare tire carrier. Was originally a CT coastal Artillery vehicle I believe. This was the one on Ebay in 2006
http://www.globalarray.net/user/bobspics/1918DBLRT.jpg
The m1918 Light repair truck was a Magneto ignition NO battery . Had a fixed spring loaded crank. Insley company built these bodies ALL RIVETED and Dodge provided the chassis with the cowl. Estimate that about half of the 1000 trucks went to France. The remaining 500 in the states were obsolete pretty quickly and most would up as usual for MVs as farm trucks and likely scrapped for all their steel during ww2.

That's excellent stuff, more posts, info, and photos please.

Gordon

In the UK, the HMVF Forum has a couple of threads about WW1 truck restoration. If you haven't already seen this one, and have the time to scroll through the (currently) 48 pages about a Dennis:

yes that is the correct maker of the truck bodies. here is the original Dodge bronze data plate affixed to the side of the cowl. Neither of the other two trucks retain the DB data plate!!!. It is still riveted to the cowl as is the LRT data plate.
http://www.globalarray.net/user/bobspics/rt5.JPG
The front of the truck is essentially Dodge brothers but as I stated the crank is spring loaded and NOT removable
http://www.globalarray.net/user/bobspics/rt4.JPG
The tail light hangs from a riveted bracket from the rear cross member.
On Ebay I was able to find the lamp still in original ww 1 OD paint
http://www.globalarray.net/user/bobspics/rt10.JPG
Will add more soon Enjoy

Hi
Great truck :D :D :D
Does it have the backwards H pattern, like the Dodges from the 20s

How hard would it be to up grade to the silent starter also from the 20s?
