SWB FUEL TANKS, Two Tanks, Three Brackets

Post by RANGER »

Closed Cab SWBs all had the Small neck fuel Tank with the single fil pipe on thr passender side. Open Cabs were wider than the Closed Cab, and the Fuel Tank Bracket was modified to accept the dual 4" filler pipes. There are many surplus CCKW SWBs that have the open cab with the bracket and tank made for the Closed Cab, the Small neck tank on the Open Cab model can pose a problem for trucks that an M-36 Mount is being installed on. If the Ring is to be mounted in a lower position, a short section of the Right Rear M-36 post must be cut off.
It is obvious that many CCKWs converted to Open Cab in Post WWII service have retained the Closed Cab fuel tank configuration. A late replacement SWB Fuel Tank Bracket was available configured for either the early single fill pipe tank used on the closed cab, and the Open Cab with the two large fill pipes. There were three types of SWB Fuel Tank Brackets.

Anybody spot any of the above? Do not be critical as the SWB Fuel Tank is housed within the Spare Tire Bracket, there are none to be found, and if one does show up, it weighs between 400 and 500#, just enough to discourage shipping.
