Improving the GMC CCKW 2 1/2 ton 6x6

Post by RANGER »

This is the title of a little known early 1942 wartime pamphlet printed by War Products and Training Activities at General Motors Truck and Caoch Div., Yellow Truck & Coach Manufacturing Company, Pontiac, Michigan.
Itdescribes the following upgrades:
1. An improved Air Cleaner Clamp and Seal Assembly
2. A new Choke Control utilizing a return spring.
3. Apositive Crankcase Ventilator and Air Cleaner System.
4. An improved Water Bypass Assembley.

Upgrades were for the better of the CCKW, UERs (Unsatisfactory Equipment Reports) were received from the field, engineers at Detroit Arsenal and General Motors evaluated them and if necessary, an upgrade was done and kits were sent thru the supply system.
Upgrades were designed to improve the serviceability of the CCKW, and should be retained. One good example is the change to the deep sump oil pan, the offroad use of the CCKW in negotiating steep grades resulted in those with the shallow oil pan having problems with foaming oil as the crankshaft would have an egg beater effect as it came in contact with the oil.

These little GMC Training Pamphlets are rare, I know of only two, mine and he one in Bob Rubinos collection. They have photos and installation instructions of the kits.
