I don't own a WW2 Dodge, but I like the guys who do :D

But, if you're going to make your living by attacking Pacific Atolls and Islands, coming ashore on soft sand or volcanic rock, you might want something like this.

Actually, I read the USMC didn't have a lot of choice. All the Chrysler production was spoken for by the US Army and International was the only option left.

Whose is that? Is it in Southern California? Any other pics? One of the guys I do side work for just bought one (includes an incorrect closed cab and the correct open cab), and he has stated that he wants me to "get it going". Any additional pics would be helpful.

Here are a couple of pics of the one my friend bought:

They were able to find the original open cab that it came with, in the junk yard there.....!

I remember seeing closed cab M3-4 IH trucks that were purchased from the Navy Seebee's in the late 40's, The cabs looked very similar to the one in the photo. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, that's right. The M-2-4 Cab and the M-3-4 Cab are inter-changeable. I have a photo somewhere of a M-2-4 with an open-cab M-3-4 on it. The open cab M-3-4 came with doors and the provision for a canvas top whereas the M-2-4 had neither.

This particular truck had an open cab- it was found at the yard from whence it was rescued. It now resides "safely" near me. The owner has yet to decide which cab to keep. The problem with the open cab is that it is missing the ID plate and the back wall :cry:

Is there any other place we can find a serial number? Frame, maybe?

The other neat thing is that it has "Camp Pendleton" stenciled on each side of the hood near the top curve.

It was also apparently converted to 24 volts?? The voltage regulator is wrecked and missing the cover (no ID tag) and the generator is missing its ID tag as well.

Its a common mistake to think that the M2 is 24 volt because of the massive generator which is fitted to the 12 volt models.It had to power the radios as well.We have also discovered that the military green diamond with this generator is slightly different to the 6 volt ones as there is an extra casting which is needed to accomadate the generator bracket.The 12 volt models also have double pulleys which means the front engine support beam is also different.We have 3 of these trucks an early 42 model 6volt,a middle build 43 12 volt and a very late 44 one which may have been a rocket truck as the frames are double skinned and there are coil springs on the top of the front axle to the frame. There is no back to the open cab only the front of the bed. Hope this helps Tony

I thought I would post a picture of an International Truck I just acquired. It is as far as I can tell, it is an1944 IHC M5H6 wrecker truck. It is one of 245 delivered to the USMC during the war.

Does anyone have any other photos of this type of truck in service?

As you already know the wrecker version is extremely rare. I've never seen one that still had the wrecker parts on it.
I'd like to think I will get one of my M5H6 cargo trucks rebuilt some day but the dodge comes first. Congrats on a heck of a find.
