Need engine in the NW

Post by 1941wc-25 »

Looking for a new engine for my WC-25 Command car. The engine I have has gone through three sets of bearings in 4 years. I wanna start from scratch. Would like a 230 but any of the flat heads will work. Block at a minimum prefer a whole engine. I am having it built in Portland Ore.

My garage: Restored Old Henry, and have had this WC51 on the road around 3 years now... Currently finishing a brace of Ben Hur trailers, and starting a 67 Galaxie fastback. Concurrent with the WC I restored a 74 TR6... Oh the joys.

Three sets of bearings in three years sounds like a lubrication problem: I'd say before going full bore swap out, pull the engine, tear it down, and get the block thoroughly cleaned, and be sure to rifle brush through ALL the oil passages, including the crank. Then get the crank mic'd, to ensure its concentricity & adherence to specs, and get the machine shop to check the main journal areas in the block for the same.

If bearings keep failing, it is a lubrication issue. Replacing the engine is nothing more than wasting money better spent finding and fixing the issue.

can't help but agree with what Scott said, but if you do decide to go with another engine, I have a couple surplus ones. Located just north of Spokane, Wa. so not real close but not all that far from you either.
Think I have both 218 and 230's. None are currently running but will turn over. Not sure of any stampings right now. Would have to look when it warms up just a bit more.

I have a 230ci in Portland. I believe it's from a 1948 Dodge car. I haven't run it, but it turns over freely and the cylinders look ok.

Have a running engine from a 1942 WC-52, probably the best available, ready to go, blasted and painted.
Long block, other parts I have here also.
San Francisco Area.
