Factory Procedures

Post by Robbo »

A bit of information to add to the knowledge base:

DUKW's were factory tested in a drive-in water tank - they drove down a ramp at one end, a cable was atteched to the rear pintle hook and the DUKW driven ahead on the prop to test the driveline and for water leaks then the cable was detached and the DUKW driven out the other end.

GMC's appear to have been given their acceptance road test without the rear bodies fitted. The spare wheel was wired to the top of the chassis and not fitted on the spare wheel carrier. The fellows working on the crating line didn't spare too much TLC on the parts they were pulling off. Very rough handling evident.

I can almost smell the fresh vehicles, these little tidbits give a bit of character to the CCKW GMC product, the CCKW is a real hotrod when driven naked.
