CCKW STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL

Post by RANGER »

When pulling your CCKW Steering Wheel, it is a good idea to change the Steering Shaft Upper Bearing that is located immediately under the steering wheel. They are usually dry, rusty or just plain worn out. It comes as an assembly that just fits into the top of the jacket. Be careful, as you have to know the ID of the Jacket. There are two, one is 1 1/4" and the other is 1 1/2". Early CCKWs had a smaller ID column, and later CCKWs had the larger. Yours may have been changed to either if the steering gear was replaced. If you can wiggle your wheel sideways, it is time to change the upper shaft bearing. 60+ years takes a toll on those little balls in the upper shaft bearing.
