CCKW PARTS MANUAL

Post by RANGER »

Having the parts manual for your CCKW is a must if you are to become proficient in finding parts for your truck. Most of the Closed Cab models had the Quartermaster TM10 Series Parts list, and the Open Cab Series trucks are depicted in the SNLs that relate to trucks procured after Ordnance took over responsibility.
Many of the parts are not illustrated, it takes time possibly a few years to be able to visualize the configuration of the correct part, especially when the manual lists several numbers for the same part that that is specific to certain Chassis Serial numbers.
What is difficult is the Collector is usually limited in exposure to just one or two trucks, and is on his own to figure out what is proper. Years ago it was a lot easier, as the motorpools were full of all versions of these trucks, the mechanics and supply personell had exposure to hundreds of trucks to gain insight from. There were many surplus dealers that sold Army trucks and parts to hundreds of customers, their shelves were overflowing and their yards had many trucks in stock. The dealers became fluent in all aspects of the vehicles they serviced.
Times have changed, the big dealers are all but gone, the experienced parts men have all but dissappeared. The same goes for the WWII and Korean era GI who were experienced on these vehicles.

The best manual for your truck is the one that applies to your specific chassis number, it may be the TM10, or in the case of late 1942 on, it will be the ORD 7, 8, and 9 Series. I suggest that one buy the SNLs in addition to the TM10.
