Your Speedometer is a 70s vintage M-Series, it will work as it is calibrated to turn at same speed as the WWII types.
The originals used by GMC are made by Stewart Warner and AC. They will have a total Mileage Odometer, and a Trip Odometer which is resetable.
Other WWII Speedometers of the same style made by Auti-Lite, King Seeley, Waltham etc will interchange. Walthams are rare and were used on GPW and GTBs along with other brands. Waltham should be avoided if not operable as the only way to find parts is to cannabalize. There are proffessional rebuilders found in Hemmings that will dissassemble, clean, calibrate, and reassemble with new bezel. They can also silk screen the Dial to "like new" condition.

Many owners chose to pry open an old speedometer bezel and then crudely crimp it back together with hammer, pliers, etc. It is not the way to go, as the professionals have the proper laboratory tools to adjust , calibrate, and lubricate with special lubricants made for instruments.

I keep several spare WWII Speedometers that have been professionaly reconditioned as spares. Expect to spend in excess $200.00 + to recondition a rebuildable speedometer. There are repros that will get you by for around $100.00-$150.00, but they are easy to detect. My friend Joel Gopan had a good used CCKW/DUKW speedometer about six months ago.
