1st SERIES SWB CCKWX 353/CCKW 352 UNIQUE EXHAUST

Post by RANGER »

The early SWB GMC prior to Serial No. 41189 with the vacuum Power Cylinder had a unique exhaust system that exited thru a tailpipe located on the passenger side. The Muffler and Exhaust Pipe crossed between the Transmission and Transfer due to the operating mechanism of the Power Cylinder installation. The Tail Pipe for the SWB Banjo, was different from that of the Split axled SWB. This feature was unique to the SWB trucks only.
It is a rare encounter to find a SWB with the original set up, as most CCKWX and CCKW with the early system were retrofitted with the improved Hydrovac booster and conventional exhaust system.

Robert Rubino is presently restoring an early SWB CCKW for a client and incorporating all of the early features.

Betcha you didn't know this one. This is a great site!
