CCKW IN WWII SERVICE

Post by RANGER »

Remember, the CCKW was not just pushed out the factory door and forgotten. General Motors had Service Technicians in the field worldwide, and the Office of Chief of Ordnance kept track of CCKW performance, this monitoring resulted in the many changes to improve serviceability or production output.
The Cast Iron Carburetor, Oil Filter changes, Oil Pumps with greater capacity, larger sector shafts, improved engine bearings, improved brake hose routing, 6 Valve Fuel Pump, Crancase Ventilation,, Baffles added to Crankcase Breather, Air Cleaner redesign, Heavier Axle Housing components, Pillow Block Lubrication, Heavier Chassis, Valve adjustment Clearances, and Wood Cargo Body were part of this process. There were many other upgrades, and will be covered as time goes by.

Overall, some of the catagories of the upgrages included:

Radio Suppression

Waterproofing for Fording

Wood Cargo Bodies

Remanufacturing of Vehicles, includes upgrades of components
